Academy Health Courses

  • Half Year | 0.5 Credit | Grades 10–12

    This course fulfills the New York State health education requirement and is designed primarily for Grade 10 students.

    Topics include at-risk behaviors, nutrition and physical fitness, mental and emotional health, human sexuality, disease prevention, and drugs. Students examine the relationship between health-risk behaviors and their short- and long-term consequences while developing skills in decision-making, communication, stress management, planning and goal setting, advocacy, and identifying community resources.

    The goal of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to improve their overall quality of life and long-term health.

  • Half Year | 0.5 Credit | Grades 10–12

    Possible 3 college credits from FLCC

    This course fulfills the New York State health education requirement. Topics include at-risk behaviors, nutrition and physical fitness, mental and emotional health, human sexuality, disease prevention, and drugs.

    Students examine the relationship between health-risk behaviors and their short- and long-term consequences while developing skills in decision-making, communication, stress management, planning and goal setting, advocacy, and identifying community resources.

    Students also earn certification in child abuse identification and reporting and school violence intervention and prevention. The goal of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to improve their overall quality of life and long-term health.
