Qualified voters may apply for absentee and early mail ballots at the District Clerk's office. Absentee and early mail vote applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven days before the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the absentee or early mail voter, or the day before the vote if the ballot is to be personally delivered. Absentee and early mail ballots must be received by the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on May 20, 2025 to be counted.

Three-Part Budget

There are two seats available in the 2026 election. The term of current school board members Amy Calabrese and Jeanie Grimm expire on June 30, 2026.  

Amy Hall

Amy Hall is currently the Vice President for Advancement and Communications at Ronald McDonald House of Rochester, NY, and a career nonprofit fundraiser with extensive experience in grant writing and working with New York State agencies on funding, compliance, and reporting. She also serves as the facilitator for the Grant Writers Network of Rochester.

Amy has been a member of the Canandaigua PTSA since 2020 and is currently serving as Secretary, with her term ending July 1, 2026. She is actively involved in district and school community events, including welcoming new families, supporting teacher and staff appreciation efforts, volunteering backstage for the Canandaigua Middle School musical, and serving as a registered volunteer with Girl Scout Troop 60165. She also participated in the district’s Student Electronic Device Committee.

Amy is a graduate of Xavier University in Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Media Communications. She and her family have lived in the Canandaigua City School District for nearly 16 years and reside in the Town of Canandaigua. She and her husband have two children who attend Canandaigua Middle School.

Amber Valvano

Amber Valvano is a 2006 graduate of Canandaigua Academy. She attended the University of Rochester, and received her Doctor of Pharmacy at St. John Fisher University—Wegmans School of Pharmacy. Amber has worked for Wegmans for 19 years—previously as a Pharmacy Area Manager, and currently as a Marketing Manager. 

Amber has participated in the Primary-Elementary School Improvement Planning Team for two years.

Amber is a catechist at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she has taught PreK and 2nd Grade Faith Formation, as well as First Penance and First Communion Preparation. She served on the hospitality committee at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canandaigua and helped with the GIFT program.  Amber and her husband, Matthew, have three children who all attend Canandaigua- twin boys in 3rd grade and a daughter in UPK. 

Proposition #1- Budget Resolution

Resolved, that the Board of Education of the City School District of the City of Canandaigua in the County of Ontario, State of New York, be and hereby is authorized to expend the sum of $97,837,587 for the 2026-2027 school year and to levy the necessary tax therefor.

Proposition #2 Transportation- Gas and Diesel

Shall the bond resolution adopted by the Board of Education of the City School District of the City of Canandaigua, New York, dated March 16, 2026, authorizing the acquisition of diesel and gasoline school buses, at an estimated maximum aggregate cost of $1,883,674, less trade-in value, if any, and the appropriation and expenditure from the existing 2016 Transportation Vehicle Reserve Fund of $950,000 for such cost; the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments, with such tax to be offset by state aid available therefor; the issuance of debt obligations of the School District as may be necessary, not to exceed $933,674, may be issued, or the board of education may appropriate in its discretion undesignated available fund balance therefor, all be approved?

Proposition #3 Wood Library Association

Resolved, that pursuant to Education Law, Section 259, the Board of Education of the Canandaigua City School District is authorized to levy and collect an annual tax, year after year, separate and apart from the annual school district budget, in the amount of $1,120,923, which shall be paid to the Wood Library Association of Canandaigua for the support and maintenance of the library; with this appropriated amount to be the annual appropriation until thereafter modified by a future vote of the electors of the Canandaigua City School District.

BUDGET VOTE & BOARD OF EDUCATION ELECTION PRELIMINARY RESULTS

Canandaigua City School District voters passed a $93.4 million budget for 2025-2026 school year, approved a gas and diesel transportation purchase proposition, zero emissions transportation proposition,  capital reserve, and re-elected Julianne Miller to a 5-year term on the Board of Education. The budget was passed with 74 % of the voters approving the budget. Additionally, voters approved the Wood Library proposition.

Three-Part Budget

There is one seat available in the 2025 election. The term of current school board member Julianne Miller expires on June 30, 2025.  

Julianne Miller’s career spans over twenty five years in a variety of educational settings.  She is currently the Assistant Director of the Center for Spirituality at Nazareth University and previously served as the Director of the Abbe Center for Jewish Life in the Office of Spiritual Engagement at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.  Prior to HWS, she was a high school social studies teacher in Massachusetts and New Jersey and taught middle school and adult education courses in Rochester. She is a graduate of Princeton University and earned a Master’s Degree in History from Brown University. She is a past president of the Board of Trustees at Temple Beth-El in Geneva and served for many years as an officer for CA Soccer Boosters.  She was a volunteer coach with the Canandaigua Area Soccer League (CASL) and continues to enjoy volunteering for CA Tennis, the CA Music program, and the musical at CA and CMS. Julianne and her husband Justin have three children, one of whom is a graduate of Canandaigua Academy and two of whom currently attend the Canandaigua schools.

Proposition #1- Budget Resolution 
Resolved, that the Board of Education of the City School District of the City of Canandaigua in the County of Ontario, State of New York, be and hereby is authorized to expend the sum of $ for the 2025-2026 school year and to levy the necessary tax therefor.

Proposition #2- Transportation Purchase- Gas and Diesel
Shall the bond resolution adopted by the Board of Education of the City School District of the City of Canandaigua, New York, dated March 3, 2025, authorizing the acquisition of nine (9) diesel and gasoline school buses, all at an estimated maximum aggregate cost of $1,323,815, less trade-in value, if any, and the appropriation and expenditure from the existing 2016 Transportation Vehicle Reserve Fund of $650,000 for such cost; the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments therefor; the issuance of debt obligations of the School District as may be necessary, not to exceed $673,815, may be issued or the board of education may appropriate in its discretion undesignated available fund balance therefor, all be approved?

Proposition #3- Transportation Purchase- Zero Emissions
Shall the bond resolution adopted by the Board of Education of the City School District of the City of Canandaigua, New York, dated March 3, 2025, authorizing the acquisition of two (2) zero-emission electric school buses, all at an estimated maximum aggregate cost of $940,315, less grants, credits, rebates or bus trade-in value, if any, and the appropriation and expenditure from the existing 2016 Transportation Vehicle Reserve Fund of $300,000 for such cost; the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments therefor; the issuance of debt obligations of the School District as may be necessary, not to exceed $640,315, may be issued, or the board of education may appropriate in its discretion undesignated available fund balance therefor, all be approved?

Proposition #4- 2025 Capital Reserve Fund
Resolved, the Board of Education of the Canandaigua City School District is hereby authorized to establish a capital reserve fund pursuant to Section 3651 of the Education Law to be designated, “2025 Capital Reserve Fund” created to defray the cost of the construction and reconstruction of School District buildings and facilities, including original equipment, machinery, apparatus, appurtenances, furnishings and other incidental improvements and expenses in connection therewith, and to defray the cost of, in whole or in part, and in order to accomplish the same, the Board is hereby authorized to establish the ultimate amount of such reserve fund to Ten Million Dollars ($10,000,000) plus accrued interest and other investment earnings, with a probable term of ten (10) years. The Board of Education is hereby authorized to fund the capital reserve with budgetary appropriations, revenues not required by law to be paid into any other fund or account, fund balance and such other monies as the voters may direct, and/or other legally available funds of the School District to such reserve fund in an amount determined by the Board of Education up to the maximum authorized amount.

Proposition #5- Wood Library Community-Based Funding
Resolved, that pursuant to Education Law, Section 259, the Board of Education of the Canandaigua City School District is authorized to levy and collect an annual tax, year after year, separate and apart from the annual school district budget, in the amount of $1,027,564, which shall be paid to the Wood Library Association of Canandaigua for the support and maintenance of the library; with this appropriated amount to be the annual appropriation until thereafter modified by a future vote of the electors of the Canandaigua City School District.

Budget Vote & Board of Education Election - Preliminary Results

Canandaigua City School District voters passed a $93.4 million budget for the 2025-2026 school year with 74% of voters approving the budget. Additionally, transportation purchases for gas/diesel, and zero emissions buses, and capital project reserve fund resolutions passed. Julianne Miller was re-elected to a 5-year term on the Board of Education. Voters also approved the establishment of a capital reserve fund and voters approved the Wood Library proposition.
