Canandaigua City School District
- Vision
- One Community - Various communities make up the Canandaigua City School District. Within the school itself, several buildings and departments represent our district. We have families and individuals, each has its own story, and each one is a valued and beloved member of the Braves Family. One Community means that everyone plays an important role, regardless of your position in the district or within the community, in helping students grow and become prepared to be happy, healthy, and productive members of society.
- Transforming Lives - Through the school system, we intend to transform the lives of everyone within the One Community, for the better. Collectively, we can lift up one another and improve each person’s current reality. Specific to students, at no point will a person change as much as they will during their UPK-12 academic years. Supporting and educating our youth must be done in unison between the school, the family, and the community.
- Rooted - It is the foundation that our educational system is built upon.
- Inclusion - Everyone is both valued and advocated for; Inclusion is more than acceptance, it is truly involving everyone and providing equal access and opportunity (everyone includes but is not limited to all genders, ethnicities, etc.). It is not our job to judge, but rather, it is our job to care for each person and educate each student.
- Love - This term represents traits that embody “love” such as care, nurture, respect, value, and advocate; Love is providing unconditional support, regardless of real or perceived differences.
- Active Role - We believe everyone is an educator in their own way. Some educate directly through instruction, some educate by leading extracurricular activities, while others educate by leading through example.
- Purpose in Life - We desire to nurture each individual's strengths and interests such that when they commence, they are on their path to leading a happy, healthy, and productive life as a member of society.
- Mission
- World-Class - We believe that when we set out to do anything, we must have the intention of delivering with a quality that is considered second to none. We believe our students, staff, and this community deserve the best educational experience possible with the resources at hand.
- Educational Experiences / Range of Opportunities - There are many variations of instructional delivery, none of which is alone, the answer. Master teachers deploy varied and expansive instructional techniques in order to best engage and empower our learners. Techniques ought to be tailor-made to fit the various needs of the individual.
- Explore - Provide a range of opportunities that represent the various cultures, preferences, and aspirations of all learners.
- Enrich - Create differentiated and individualized experiences, which engage all learners.
- Empower - Provide students, employees, and community both voice and choice.
- Voice and Choice - Your voice and individuality matters; Many pathways can be taken to achieve the desired result. Taking into account student strengths and areas of interest ought to be considered when designing instructional activities and assessment of acquired skills/knowledge. Updated November 2019

The Canandaigua City School District encompasses 88 square miles around the north end and west side of Canandaigua Lake, including the entire City of Canandaigua.
The boundary zigs and zags a lot, based on property lines. If you are considering moving here, don't forget to check with us at 585-396-3725 to make sure a particular address is within the district. With few exceptions, you must be a resident of the district to send children to us.

In 2012, the Canandaigua City School District utilized a NYSERDA grant to fund a solar energy capital project. This project consisted of the installation of solar panel arrays on the roofs of three school buildings -- Academy, Middle School and Primary School.
- The energy produced by these panels is fed directly to each building’s electrical panel, reducing each building’s draw on the community electrical grid and lowering the District’s overall costs for electricity service
