Board of Education
As elected representatives of the community, the nine member Board of Education strives to ensure the best possible program for all students at the most reasonable cost. Board members are elected to five-year terms. They are volunteers who serve without pay. Board members must follow New York State law in the provision of an educational program and all other aspects of the school district.
The Board of Education invites all residents to share their thoughts regarding issues involving the Canandaigua City School District. The Board has established a specific e-mail address for District residents to offer input, thoughts and constructive criticisms directly to the Board:
For an inquires regarding materials or if you wish to speak at a Board meeting, please contact the District Clerk, Deborah Sundlov.
Update September 8, 2020:
On August 31, 2020 the Board of Education held its first in person meeting since the global pandemic hit New York State. Presenters, two board members, and members of the public joined or attended the meeting via Zoom while the rest of us met in person. We did our best to negotiate the space we had in order to maintain 6 feet of distance and remain in the frame so people viewing could see us. We were masked at all times. People reported to us throughout the meeting and after that they were unable to understand us in this format due to the audio quality, face coverings, and distance. It seemed to us to defeat the purpose of a public meeting so, in accordance with the newly extended Executive Order which now allow for virtual Board meetings through October 4, we will return to a virtual format until such time for the ease of viewership and participation. As before, the link will be available on our website. You can contact the Board at the above e-mail with any questions or concerns.
If you would like to submit a comment to the Board of Education for their next Board of Education meeting, please submit to the District Clerk, Deborah Sundlov at firstname.lastname@example.org.
