Dale Werth - Head Varsity Coach
Dale ended his 15th year as the Varsity head coach, after spending 4 years as head coach of the Braves junior varsity team. He brings an enthusiastic and positive coaching style to the varsity program. Since taking over the varsity program, his teams have gone 198-151 overall and 105-68 in league play. They have won 4 league titles (2009,2014,2017,2018), and three sectional title's (2016, 2017,2018). In addition the 2018 team was the NYSPHSAA Far West Regional Champions, and were state semi-finalists.
Coach Werth is a 1987 graduate of Springville Griffith Institute High School, where he played both baseball and football. Dale gained additional playing experience in the CEBA and Buffalo News Suburban leagues in the WNY area from 1985-1991. He graduated from Canisius College with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1991, and also has a Masters degree from West Virginia University in 1992.
Dale, 49 is a native of the Buffalo area, and is currently a Physical Education Teacher in the Canandaigua Middle School. Dale resides in Canandaigua with his wife Mary Pat and their children; Sarah, Meghan, and Samuel.
Dave Maine - Varsity Assistant Coach
Dave Maine is starting his 11th year on the Braves staff in 2018. He will be an assistant at the varsity level. Coach Maine is no newcomer to coaching baseball in the Finger Lakes region. He was the head varsity baseball coach at Red Jacket High School for 31 years. In that time, Dave's Teams won 10 Finger Lakes West titles and 5 Sectional Titles. He was the 1998 Section five class C coach of the year.
Dave is a graduate of Lyons High school, and Providence College (class of '66) where he was a member of both schools baseball teams. In addition Dave played Semi-Pro baseball for the Waterfalls Cardinals from 1964-1977. Dave is a member of both the Red Jacket and Lyon's High School Athletic Halls of Fame.
Dave, resides in the city of Canandaigua with his wife Mary Lee, and Son Cory.
Mike Tepper - JV Coach
Mike begins his 15th year on the Braves coaching staff. This will be his 6th year as head coach of the JV team. Coach Tepper is a 2002 graduate of the College of Saint Rose, and is a social studies teacher at Canandaigua Academy. He went to Pittsford-Mendon High school where he played on the varsity baseball team
Mike and his wife Laura reside in Fairport with their sons Evan and Blake.
Al Almansberger - JV Assistant Coach
Coach Almansberger will begin his 3rd year on the Braves staff this season. He will be an assistant with the jv program. Al has baseball playing experience at Rush Henrietta high school and collegiately at the University of Rochester. Al coached Football and Baseball at RH for 10 years from 1973-1983. He was the director of the RHAA Summer baseball program serving 900 children, and has coached American.
Steven Verbridge - Modified Coach
Steve is entering his 6th year on the CA baseball staff. He will be starting his 3rd year as head coach at the modified level, working two years as an assistant for the Freshman team.
Coach Verbridge is a 2008 CA Graduate who played both Volleyball and Baseball. Coach Verbridge graduated from FLCC in 2010, SUNY Brockport in 2012 with his Bachelors of Science in Physical Education, and received his MSEd in Athletic Administration from SUNY Brockport in 2014. Steve serves as Head coach for the Varsity Boys Volleyball team in the fall season. He is currently a teacher in the Waterloo School District. Steve also officiates Football, Basketball and Baseball at the high school and collegiate levels.
Matt Walters - Modified Coach
Matt is entering his 12th year on the baseball staff. He is starting his 10th year as head coach at the modified level, after working the two years as an assistant for the varsity team.
Coach Walters is a 2001 CA Graduate who lettered in both Baseball & Football. Matt is currently working as a teacher at the Academy. Matt also serves as Defensive Coordinator for the varsity football team in the fall. He is a 2005 graduate of Hobart College where he played football.
Matt and his wife Tina reside in Canandaigua with their son Charlie.
Jack Wallwork - Program Assistant
Coach Wallwork (23) will join the Braves staff this spring. He recently completed his collegiate career at SUNY Brockport and was a 2014 graduate of Geneva high school. He was a 3 year starter at Geneva and was the 2014 F.L. east player of the year. He played 4 years on the golden eagles team at Brockport. Jack served as an assistant coach in the Interstate Collegiate Baseball league for the 2018 summer season. He is a 2018 graduate of SUNY Brockport and resides in Rochester, NY.
