Canandaigua Middle School
The Middle School (grades 6-8) offers a comprehensive and flexible program that meets the ever-changing needs of our students. The school's curriculum, scheduling and organization are aligned with middle school best practices to stimulate a highly engaging academic atmosphere. A close relationship between students and adult staff members is the school's hallmark and character education is a top priority.

Ms. Kris VanDuyne
Building Principal & 6th Grade
Ms. VanDuyne begins her first year as Principal of Canandaigua Middle School. Ms. VanDuyne has worked for the Canandaigua City School District since September 2004 and her experiences include being a high school and middle school social studies teacher, the Curriculum Area Leader Teacher for social studies, and Dean of Students at the Academy. In 2021, she was appointed as an Assistant Principal for the Coordination of Federal Stimulus Funded Activities. Since 2022, she has served as the Director of Professional Development for the District. For the past seven weeks, Kris has served as the Interim Principal at Canandaigua Middle School and is the first woman to be named the Principal at Canandaigua Middle School.
Ms. VanDuyne shared her excitement about the new position, and stated, “I am incredibly honored and excited to join Canandaigua Middle School as the next principal. This school has a strong tradition of excellence, and I am committed to building on that foundation by working collaboratively with teachers, staff, students, and families to create a nurturing and dynamic learning environment.”
Ms. VanDuyne is a graduate of Finger Lakes Community College and has a Bachelor of Science in History from SUNY Brockport. She earned a Master of Arts in International Studies from St. John Fisher College and an advanced certificate of study in School and Building Leadership from SUNY Brockport. She is currently pursuing her doctorate at the University of Buffalo. Ms. VanDuyne has two adult children and lives in Manchester.
Mrs. Marie Windover
Assistant Principal
Dr. Windover joins Canandaigua Middle School after being an assistant principal at Roth Middle School in the Rush Henrietta School District. Prior to working at Roth, she was a Dean of Students and English Curriculum Lead Teacher at Canandaigua Academy for two years and additionally taught English at the Academy for six years. Before working at Canandaigua, she taught in Roxbury, New York.
Dr. Windover received her associate degree from Monroe Community College and earned her bachelor's degree from SUNY Brockport. She earned a Master of Science degree from St. Joseph's University, a certificate of advanced study from SUNY New Paltz and received her doctorate in education from St. John Fisher University in August 2023.
She resides in Canandaigua with her husband and three children, two of whom graduated from Canandaigua Academy, and her youngest child is a student in the Canandaigua City School District.
Mr. Theron Chinn
Assistant Principal
The team at Canandaigua Middle School will be joined by Mr. Theron Chinn. Theron, a 2002 graduate of Canandaigua Academy, has been a school counselor at Penn Yan Middle School for the last nine years. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology and communications from West Virginia University and his masters’ degree and administrative certifications from The College at Brockport. Mr. Chinn is excited to return to Canandaigua, “As a Canandaigua alumni, I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to give back to the school district and community that has given me so much. I am eager to join the team of dedicated educators at Canandaigua Middle School who are driven to inspire and empower students to reach their full potential.”
