John Arthur
Principal
Mr. Arthur has served as Principal of the Canandaigua Middle School since July of 2015. Prior to becoming the principal, John spent 5 years as 7th grade assistant principal at CMS. He also worked 9 years as a 6th grade teacher and three years as an assistant principal at the Geneva City School District. Mr. Arthur earned his teaching degrees at SUNY Brockport, and his Administration Certification from the University of Rochester’s Warner School. He is a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp – Semper Fidelis. John and his wife Tracy live in Canandaigua with their children Emma and Gabe.
The Middle School (grades 6-8) offers a comprehensive and flexible program that meets the ever-changing needs of our students. The school's curriculum, scheduling and organization are aligned with middle school best practices to stimulate a highly engaging academic atmosphere. A close relationship between students and adult staff members is the school's hallmark and character education is a top priority.

Mrs. Ahl
Assistant Principal
Mrs. Ahl comes to Canandaigua from Fairport where she was a high school math teacher for 13 years and STEAM instructional coach for UPK-12 for the last three years. She works in the summer for Monroe One BOCES and has done a lot of work in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, the implementation of the Culturally Responsive Sustaining Education Framework, and has been an active member of Fairport’s diversity council. Mrs. Ahl grew up in Camillus, earned her BA and Master’s degrees from SUNY Geneseo and her administrative certificates from SUNY Brockport. Additionally, her husband is a math teacher at Fairport and she lives in Fairport with her husband, two daughters, and son. Mrs. Ahl will work closely with John Arthur and our sixth grade students, family, and staff.
Mrs. Ceddia
7th Grade Asst. Principal
Mrs. Ceddia previously worked at Red Jacket as a teacher and ELA Coordinator. Prior to beginning her administrative duties at the Middle School, Mrs. Ceddia worked at the Canandaigua Elementary as a teacher and most recently as the Assistant Director of Special Programs for the district. She received her bachelor's degree from Mount Union in Ohio and her Masters degree from Elmira College. Mrs. Ceddia received her Administrative certificate from SUNY Oswego.
