Promote patterns of development that have a positive impact on the lake’s watershed. The Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association, Inc. is dedicated to promoting responsible development that thoroughly address the unique environment of the lake. To achieve our mission, Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association (CLWA) strives to:

  • Monitor water quality to learn about and understand changes to help mediate them.
  • Work with town governments and state agencies to help secure and implement policies and regulations intended to help preserve the lake and its assets.
  • Educate our members, local town officials, and the community about lake protection and issues.
  • Act as a partner and technical resource to other agencies and organizations involved in watershed protection.
  • Sponsor and support activities to preserve our local history and heritage, such as the annual Ring of Fire (the Saturday before Labor Day).

The Canandaigua Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) believes in making every child's potential a reality by being the premier organization for parent involvement and advocacy. Canandaigua PTSA is a powerful voice for all children, a significant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child.

The PTSA provides critical financial support for various school activities and resource or equipment needs. It strongly supports the community-wide Character Education, Health & Wellness, and Family Involvement initiatives of our school district.

Canandaigua Veterans Administration Medical Center

The Canandaigua Veterans Administration Medical Center provides inpatient and out patient care to veterans living in upstate New York since 1933. The medical center it located on 150 acres with 14 patient care buildings that provide numerous health care services. Services that are provided include primary care, mental health care, specialty care, disease prevention and wellness program, alcohol and drug abuse rehabilitation, port-traumatic stress disorder care, domiciliary program and community living center (nursing home) care.

Community Reading Partnership (CRP)

The Community Reading Partnership is a broad-based community coalition of organizations, individuals, businesses, schools and libraries that have joined forces in order to promote family reading practices throughout our community. Today, the Community Reading Partnership continues to build support by networking with community organizations and through our visibility within the community as we fulfill our initiatives.

Cornell University Cooperative Extension Ontario County

Cornell Cooperative Extension-Ontario is a subordinate governmental agency with an educational mission that operates under a form of organization and administration approved by Cornell University as agent for the State of New York. It is tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The association is part of the national cooperative extension system, an educational partnership between County, State, and Federal governments. All associations work to meet the needs of the counties in which they are located as well as state and national goals.

F.F. Thompson Health Service

F.F. Thompson Health CenterF.F. Thompson Hospital, Inc. is a community hospital which exists to serve the health care needs of the people in partnership with regional health care providers. F.F. Thompson Hospital serves as the center of a health care network to provide a full range of health care services and to improve community health. F.F. Thompson Hospital is a 113-bed acute care community hospital which boasts some of the finest technology and staff in all of upstate New York. F.F. Thompson Hospital is proud of its commitment to primary care medicine and being a part of the community it serves. We are an ANCC Magnet designated hospital for nursing excellence.

Ganondagan State Historic Site

Located in the town of Victor, lies Ganondagan the Town of Peace, a Native Amerian community that was the flourishing center for the Seneca people 300 years ago. Visit this site and take a tour of a full sized replica of a 17th-century Seneca Bark Longhouse, walk miles of self-guided trails, climb the mesa where a palisaded granary stored hundreds of bushels of corn, and learn about the destruction of Ganondagon in 1867.

Granger Homestead & Carriage Museum

The Granger Homestead & Carriage Museum is the great jewel of Canandaigua's lovely North Main Street.
As a valued partner in education with the school district, the Granger Homestead:

  • Hosts numerous school tours for our students
  • Stages Civil War Days, now a staple event woven into our Middle School Social Studies curriculum
  • Engages our Art Department in participation in the annual Christmas Tree Festival

Famed United States Senator and Presidential candidate Stephen Douglas attended Canandaigua Academy from 1830-1833 before embarking on his law and political career in the frontier state of Illinois. The law office where he learned his trade as a young man can now be explored on the grounds of the Granger Homestead.

Wood Library is Canandaigua's public library. Wood is an important partner with the Canandaigua City School District, providing critical resources to children and teens, as well as outstanding family-oriented programs each month.

Wood Library is a true hub of our community.
