Graduation Performance - Ready to play on CMAC Stage @ 10AM

All of the instrumental ensembles are performing at this year's
graduation ceremony on June 27.  Students should plan on arriving with enough time so they will be ready to play on stage at 10:00AM, at which time we'll tune and go over a few things.  Dress for this performance is "Spring concert attire," no tuxedos, no black dresses.  Shirt and tie for guys, but jackets are not necessary.  Please: no shorts, no sneakers, and no soda or food on stage.  Water is acceptable on stage.  The ceremony has gone until almost 1:00 in the past.  We're looking forward to seeing you one final time this year and performing some great music!

Come join in the fun and celebrate a great year with friends and family of the CA Music Department.  Pot Luck Dinner will start at 6:30 with a presentation immediately following dinner in the Auditorium.  If you are interested in sharing music pictures for a department slide show, please email them to: kaneg@canandaiguaschools.org

  • Entree Dish to Pass: Last name A through L
  • Side Dish (Salads, vegetables, fruits, breads): Last name M through R

Spring Concert is Tuesday, June 2

Please double check your calendars, as I have discovered another discrepancy between the band handbook calendar that was sent out in September and our district’s Calendar.  The Spring Concert for Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will take place on Tuesday, June 2 at 7:30 PM in the CA Auditorium.  Sorry for this confusing error.

Memorial Day Parade Details

Students should plan on arriving at school by 8:30 AM on Monday morning.  The parade steps off at 10AM.  This year's route runs south down Main St, turns right onto Gibson, and then right again onto Pearl St..  Students will be performing during the service at Woodlawn Cemetery, which is scheduled to being at 11AM.  All students need to ride the bus back to school so they can properly return their uniforms.  Free BBQ lunch for all students immediately following cleanup!  E-Mail with questions.

2009 Virginia Beach Parent Meeting

This is a reminder that the mandatory parent-student meeting for our VA Beach trip will be this Wednesday, March 4 at 7PM in the CA Auditorium.  A chaperone meeting will immediately follow the general meeting.

Academy New Jazz to Perform at Chasin' The Blues

There has been an addition to the performance schedule for the Academy New Jazz Ensemble, we will now be playing at this year's Chasin' The Blues show.  The performance starts at 7PM on January 23 and is at The Crosswinds Wesleyan Church, 3360 Middle Cheshire Road, Canandaigua, NY 14424.  Students should wear all black.

I am pleased to announce that the long awaited patriotic prism concert FOR THOSE WHO SERVE, performed at CMAC in May of 2008 is now complete and available for order. If you were at that performance you know that the DVD is worth purchasing as a record of that special evening. If you were not there or if you have relatives or friends that you know would like to re-live the evening – this is the time you have been waiting for.

All-County Auditions

All-County auditions are being held on Saturday, December 13 at the Canandaigua Middle School.  Students that have registered are reminded to bring their signed audition form with

Students need to be ready to warmup and rehearse at the Academy at 12 Noon.  A complete schedule for the day is available here.  There will be a small brunch available before suiting up but students are encouraged to EAT BREAKFAST! 

Marching Band Rehearsals - One Schedule Change!

We will only be having four evening rehearsals this fall.  The original calendar that was mailed home in August indicated that we would be starting tonight, however our first rehearsal will be next Tuesday, September, 23.  As a reminder - if a student cannot be present at a marching rehearsal due to a sports conflict, a hand written note is necessary.

The first lesson schedule has been compiled and is posted.  You can access it on the left under "Lesson Schedules."  If your lesson is the first half of the period, you should plan on coming straight to your lesson. (It is best to tell your teacher a day ahead of time.)  If your lesson is the second half of the period, you should plan on leaving 4 minutes before your lesson start time.  Hope you all have a great and productive school year!

Symphonic Band Seating Auditions

Students in the Academy Symphonic Band should prepare measures 41 - 149 of Thundercrest March.  (Students who have the Cornet 4 Part should prepare measures 136-165.)  Your first lesson of the school year will comprise of playing this excerpt and three major scales, you choose the scales.  I will also give you a quick sight reading example.  Lessons start this Friday, September 12, Day 1.  The lesson schedule will always be posted outside of the bandroom and on this website.  Click the tab on the left labeled "Lesson Schedules" to check your group and time!
