CITRUS SALE

Pick-up for the citrus sale will be 10am to 11 Saturday March 10 at Genneco Produce

1850 Route 332, Canandaigua, NY 14424. We could use a few adults to help load cars and sort fruit. Please contact me at davist@canandaiguschools.org if you can help.

 

Remember that citrus MUST be picked up Saturday. It will not be available after the pickup date.

 

VIRGINIA BEACH TRIP UPDATE

1. FINAL TRIP STATEMENT

The Final trip statement will passed out on or about Monday March 5th, it is critical that you make this payment as soon as possible. If you have questions about your ACCOUNT contact Anthony D’Agostino at dagostia@hotmail.com. IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE that students who are paid up at the time of room sign ups and BUS SIGN UPS will have the FIRST OPPORTUNITY TO make roommate and bus selections.

 

2. MANDATORY PARENT MEETING

The will be a MANDATORY TRIP MEETING SCHEDULED THIS MONTH (TBD). All details about the trip will be discussed including school rules, Itinerary, luggage requirements, medical forms, etc, it is a school requirement that one parent (or a proxy) and each student attend this meeting.

 

ACADEMY BAND SEATING AND COURSE SCHEDULING ACTIVITEIS

Mrs. Drake, Mr. DelVillano, and I are currently listening to students and ranking each section for the purpose of re-seating and next year’s course recommendations. Each student will perform a page from their solo festival piece during the current lesson cycle. I will be going to the middle school Friday March 9 to listen to current 8th graders. This audition will also serve as a Jazz Ensemble audition for interested students.

Wednesday March 28th is the Academy Band Concert featuring The Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, New Jazz and Jazz 1. The students have been hard at work improving daily. I am eager to have them perform for you!

 

SOLO FESTIVAL

NYSSMA solo festival is Friday and Saturday March 30 and 31st. Individual Student Performance Times will be posted soon. There are a wide variety of parent tasks requested please review the list below and contact either Pam Martin or myself

 

CONCESSIONS – BAKED GOODS

Each year we sponsor a concession stand that supports the musicians and the program.  We are seeking the donation of baked goods to be sold at the stand. If you are willing to provide baked goods, please follow these guidelines:

  • Wrap cookies 3 to a bag
  • Wrap cake and brownies in single slice portions  
  • Mark anything containing nuts clearly on the package
  • Please deliver them on Friday afternoon (after 3:30) or Saturday morning to the cafeteria
  • Please use containers that we can dispose of at the end of the day versus returning
  • Please call or email me to let me know you are helping.

JAZZ GUEST ARTIST CONCERT

DAVE RIVELLO ENSEMBLE: Admission $5 at the door.

The first concert of the year is scheduled for October 14 at 7:30 PM in the CA Auditorium. Please see the press release below for more details.  If any parents have the ability to place posters it would be greatly appreciated. Advertising is often best done word of mouth and by passing this information along to people that you know who might be interested in this program.

 

For JAZZ MEMBERS - there will be a dress rehearsal THURSDAY EVENING October 13th in the Academy Band room from 6:30-8:30pm. At that rehearsal we will meet the members of the Dave Rivello Ensemble, work with the musicians, and have a chance to rehearse with Dave Rivello. This type of clinic/ rehearsal is always a VERY effective learning tool.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT TRIP TO VIRGINIA BEACH

I have presented information in band rehearsal about POTENTIAL trip to Virginia Beach that the music department is planning. The trip is designed to be a department-wide endeavor geared toward a final performance of a major work for band chorus and orchestra such as Carl Orff's Carmina Burana >>TO LISTEN CLICK HERE (Note from Mr. Davis: we performed this ENTIRE WORK in the past to a wildly appreciative audience!)

While in Virginia we would: work with members of the Virginia Symphony, rehearse at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, Work with a notable conductor, attend a performance of the Virginia Symphony, as well as sight-see, spend some time on the beach, and enjoy the amenities of the hotel.

The dates of this trip will be between Wednesday afternoon and Sunday Morning of Spring Break (April). The cost of the trip will be approximately $500, which will include Hotel (4 per room), bust, two meals a day and all performance costs. In the past we spent one after noon at Bush Gardens before heading for home to provide for appropriate Bus Driver break time. We may do that again.

Because the planning and pricing of this trip is so closely tied to student participation numbers, we will need to have a solid count of students that intend to participate. Therefore, a commitment form and $100 down payment will be required by Friday, October 14. That down payment is NON REFUNDABLE unless it is determined after October14th that there is insufficient interest in this music/travel experience to continue planning.

It has been three years since our last trip. I had the good fortune of planning and participating in 17 consecutive CA MUSIC trips. They were ALWAYS the highlight of the year for so many of our students. We are doing our best to bring this experience back to the academy music department and I hope that you will all consider this worthwhile musical - educational experience.   • Email any new email addresses for your family right away so that we can keep in touch.
  • Be sure to sign and return to school the last page of the handbook right away!
