Giving To Charity Sleep Is A Good Thing! By Natalie V. Team Honeoye When you wake up at five thirty in the morning, you eagerly shut off your alarm clock and hop out of bed, singing fairy tale songs as you dress. You soar down the stairs and kiss your dog on the nose, then feed him an extra treat. As you gobble down your cereal, you think of all the nutritional value and how many servings of grain you plan on having. Finally, you jet onto the bus and give your bus driver a swell greeting. The whole bus ride, you work on erasing the swear words from the back of the bus seats while tapping your foot and whistling. Is that you in the morning??? No. I didn't think so. Of course, not even the most chipper person who gets 12 hours of sleep will be like this. But this will be a step up from your usual morning routine. At around eleven years old, we should be getting around eight and a half hours of sleep each night. So, if you get up at five thirty, you should plan on hitting the hay at around eight thirty or earlier. Plan on getting enough zzz’s each week and you'll be sure to be more peppy in the AM. Yeah, I don't think you'll sing fairy tale songs while getting changed or think about nutritional values, but at least you'll be happier. And hey, do your bus a favor. Get working on erasing those swear words!
Giving To Those In Need By Natalie Verdi Sixth Grade Team Honeoye We all take things for granted sometimes. Such as the wonderful Thanksgiving dinner on our tables every year. And we often don't realize the little things like coloring books or crayons. I don't think I really did that much either. On Saturday morning, my sister, my dad, and myself all got into our car very early in the morning and drove to downtown Rochester. We met up with lots of other volunteers and we were each assigned to follow one of three trucks. What was in them? Food and toys for the poor. There were endless cans of food and mixes. There were toys and games galore. We donated to places like the House of Mercy and the YWCA. At first I was a little intimidated by the people and some of the areas we were in. But then I saw the looks on their faces and the genuine happiness they were experiencing. They all said thank you so many times! They also took our pictures! It feels so good to help those in need. It adds a new layer of joy to the Holidays. I know we'll definitely be back next year.
