Middle School Principal Brian Nolan

Former Middle School Assistant Principal Brian Nolan is the new Middle School Principal. Mr. Nolan, who oversaw 7th Grade since 2008, succeeds former Principal Ralph Undercoffler, who retired at the end of June after 13 years as Principal. Mr. Nolan became Principal on July 1, 2010.

Mr. Nolan was selected after a lengthy and challenging screening interview process in which faculty, parents, and current Middle School students participated. He has strong organizational skills and is a proven creative problem solver. Perhaps most importantly, he has a deep understanding of middle school students, and the emotional, academic, and social challenges they face during this stage of adolescence.

“We had several very excellent candidates, and a great process that gave everyone a voice in this important hiring,” says Superintendent of Schools Don Raw. “It is with distinct pleasure that we welcome Brian to the building leadership position. He has been a great asset to our school district for many years already. As a Middle School Assistant Principal, he has developed a strong and respectful rapport with our students, faculty and staff. He will make a worthy successor to Ralph.”

Brian Nolan began his career in education student teaching at the Boynton Middle School in Ithaca, New York, during his senior year at Ithaca College. Upon completion of his Master’s Degree in Education in 1996, he was hired by the Canandaigua City School District as a Physical Education and Driver Education.

Pursuing his interest in school administration, he served as Summer School Principal at Canandaigua Academy in 2001. After seven years teaching and coaching, he was hired in 2003 as an Assistant Principal at the Academy. After five years at CA, he was hired in 2008 to replace Julie Winston as an Assistant Principal at the Canandaigua Middle School, when Mrs. Winston took over the District’s staff development responsibilities.

Brian and his wife, Heather, have been married 12 years. The couple has three children, ages nine, six, and two... and a new puppy, named ‘Cuse. (But he bleeds Cherry & Gray!)
