Commencement ceremony filled with many happy moments, the announcement of the 2017 John Wilcox Award is always special. This year’s winner of the District’s highest honor for employees is 3rd grade teacher Annette Annesi, a shining example of an educator who lives the traits and ideals of former Canandaigua Academy Principal John Wilcox.
One nominator said: “Annette Annesi identifies the unique qualities of each child and adapts her style to bring out the best in each child.
“She enforces clear classroom rules. One important rule that provides a positive climate is that all students have mutual respect for each other’s unique ideas and contributions. Another rule, that helps guide the young students as they begin their elementary school career, is taking ownership and responsibility for the choices they make.
“As children enter her room, she acknowledges every single child with a hug, a high-five, or a smile, a laugh, or a positive response when a student tells her a story or an achievement. Who wouldn’t want to start the day feeling special, unique and important?
“Annette is a positive role model who leads by example, with respect, patience, and a great deal of humor. She gives students tools that will help them to positively navigate situations in the classroom and in their future interactions with others. Her structure and consistency in the classroom allows the students to have a predictable environment where they can learn and grow.
“Annette Annesi has a special way of bringing out the best in the children, and she truly embodies the student-focused qualities of John Wilcox.”
Our congratulations to Mrs. Annesi on this high honor. A former 4th and 5th grade teacher, in 2017-2018 she will be at the Middle School, teaching 6th grade!
